A 33-year-old man from San Juan Bautista faces murder and attempted murder charges after authorities say he strangled his 2-year-old son and tried to kill his girlfriend.
Deputies responded to a call about a baby not breathing at an apartment in the 100 block of The Alameda on Monday. They found the boy unconscious. Medics took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The girlfriend told investigators that Adrian Joseph Lujan woke her and began strangling her. She fought him off. He fled in a Ford Fusion. She later found the boy on the couch and called 911. Their 4-year-old child was unharmed. Officers tracked Lujan to Merced County and arrested him after a pursuit. During an interview he confessed to the killing, according to the San Benito County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Eric Taylor said deputies believe Lujan planned to kill his entire family. Lujan remains in the San Benito Jail. Authorities have not established a motive.
