Catalan tenants union starts large survey with 1,800 volunteers on general housing strike

The Sindicat de Llogateres, together with the PAH and other unions, deployed 1,806 volunteers across 42 municipalities on Saturday to survey living costs and gauge support for a general strike.

The initiative is part of the Viure ens costa la vida campaign and includes 51 fixed points. Volunteers visit squares and homes to ask about rents and wages. Spokesperson Ruben Sáez said in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat that the goal is to hear what people want to do against the housing crisis. First results will be announced at 18:30 in Barcelona. Organizers state that housing exceeds 50% of income in many households. The survey aims to move toward a general strike for housing rights.
