Civil Defense warns of new storms and floods in RS

Rio Grande do Sul's Civil Defense issued an alert for storms and floods from Sunday to Wednesday.

The state agency issued the warning on Saturday and updated it on Sunday. The forecast points to severe storms, with the possibility of large hail, wind gusts over 90 km/h and high rainfall volumes.

Accumulations may exceed 100 millimeters in 12 hours and 200 millimeters in 48 hours, mainly on Tuesday. There is also a chance of tornadoes. Instabilities are expected to continue at dawn on Wednesday in the northern, northwestern, northeastern, Serra, Valleys and northern coast regions.

Rivers such as Uruguai, Jacuí and Sinos are already above flood stage. The Civil Defense recorded 488 people in shelters and 754 displaced in the state. In total, 214 of 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul reported damage.
