Delhi court grants probation to Alka Lamba

A Delhi court on Saturday ordered the release of Congress women’s wing chief Alka Lamba on probation for one year following her conviction in a 2024 protest case.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order. The judge noted that Lamba is a first-time offender with no prior criminal convictions. Lamba was convicted last month for offences including obstructing public servants, assaulting government officials, violating a promulgated order, and causing obstruction in a public place during the protest at Jantar Mantar. The court directed Lamba to furnish a bond of ₹1 lakh along with one surety of the same amount. She must maintain peace and demonstrate good behaviour for one year. The prosecution presented no grounds for denying the benefit of probation, the judge said.
