Didier Deschamps was saddened by his mother's death Tuesday morning. The French team coach will return to France to attend the funeral and will not lead training or the Norway-France match scheduled for Friday at 9 p.m.
The French Football Federation stated that in agreement with President Philippe Diallo, Didier Deschamps has entrusted responsibility for the squad to his assistant Guy Stéphan until his return. France is already qualified for the round of 16 after its 3-0 win against Iraq on Monday.
Deschamps had previously missed a match against Denmark in June 2022 following his father's death. The FFF extended its condolences to Didier Deschamps and his family.
