Disney has canceled the Hong Kong premiere of its animated sequel Zootopia 2 following devastating high-rise fires that killed at least 83 people in the region. The decision affects multiple events at Hong Kong Disneyland scheduled for November 27, 2025, including a special screening and gala premiere. The move comes amid strong global box office performance for the film.
Cancellation Details
Park officials announced the cancellation on Instagram, stating: “Due to a serious incident that occurred in Hong Kong, the scheduled appearance of Joey Yung at the ‘Friendtastic!’ parade, Disney’s Zootopia 2 Selected Magic Access Members Special Screening at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the evening Gala Premiere at Hong Kong Disneyland on Nov. 27, 2025 (Thursday) have been canceled.” Joey Yung voices the Judy Hopps character in the Cantonese dubbed version of the film.
Additionally, the resort canceled its planned fireworks display, posting: “Due to an incident in Hong Kong and out of respect, tonight Momentous: Party in the Night Sky will be canceled.” The cancellations are in response to horrific fires in multiple high-rise public housing buildings in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, as reported by the South China Morning Post. Local officials confirmed the fires are now “basically under control,” but noted more than 75 people injured—including nearly a dozen firefighters—and around 300 still missing.
