Disney releases trailer for Toy Story 5 reuniting Woody and Buzz

A new trailer for Toy Story 5 has been released by Disney and Pixar, showing Woody and Buzz Lightyear reuniting after their separation in the previous film. The fifth installment in the animated franchise introduces a frog-like tablet device named Lilypad as a threat to the toys' world. The movie is set for release in cinemas on 19 June.

The trailer for Toy Story 5, the fifth film in the popular US animated adventure comedy franchise, features the return of classic characters including Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and others. Launched in 1995, the series depicts a world where toys come to life when humans are not around. In the clip, the toys face a new challenge from Lilypad, a frog-like tablet device voiced by Greta Lee, who has "her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their kid, Bonnie," according to Pixar.

The trailer teases a reunion between Buzz, voiced by Tim Allen, and Woody, portrayed by Tom Hanks. Buzz says, "It's been too long cowboy," before embracing a now slightly balding Woody. The pair quickly resume their familiar bickering, prompting Mr. Potato Head—now voiced by Jeff Bergman—to note, "It's good to see them fighting again."

Returning voices include Joan Cusack as Jessie, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Tony Hale as Forky, Blake Clarke as Slinky Dog, and Keanu Reeves as Duke Kaboom. New characters feature Conan O'Brien as Smarty Pants, Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head, Scarlett Spears as Bonnie, Craig Robinson as Atlas—a cheerful talking GPS hippo toy—Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Shelby Rabara as Snappy, an excitable toy camera.

The film's tagline states: "Times may change but friends are forever." Buzz declares in the trailer: "Our mission on this planet, is to make a child happy." It will include an original score by Oscar winner Randy Newman.

The franchise began as the first entirely computer-animated feature film and has grossed more than £3 billion worldwide. Toy Story 3 (2010) and Toy Story 4 (2019) won Oscars for best animated feature, while the original received a special achievement Academy Award.
