Djurgården signs Daniel Marmenlind as new goaltender

Djurgården has agreed to sign 28-year-old goaltender Daniel Marmenlind from Malmö Redhawks, filling the vacancy left by Hugo Hävelid's loan to Nybro. Marmenlind, who previously played for Djurgården as a junior, will serve as backup to Magnus Hellberg. The move comes after Marmenlind became surplus at Malmö following their decision to prioritize Oskar Blomgren and Marek Langhamer.

Daniel Marmenlind, 28, is set to join Djurgården after a deal was reached with Malmö Redhawks, according to Hockeynews. The signing addresses the gap created when Djurgården loaned out Hugo Hävelid to Nybro earlier this week. Expressen had previously reported Djurgården's inquiry to Malmö about the goaltender.

Marmenlind's career includes a stint with Djurgården during the 2013/14 junior season. He later joined Örebro, progressed through Hockeyettan, and broke through with Västervik in Hockeyallsvenskan during the 2020/21 season. After signing with Malmö, he earned a debut for Sweden's Tre Kronor in a November 2023 game against Finland in Tampere, where Sweden won in front of 11,700 spectators.

However, Marmenlind's recent form has been challenging. Last season was unsuccessful, and this season he has no wins in five starts, allowing an average of four goals per game with an 85% save percentage. At Djurgården, he will back up Magnus Hellberg and get a fresh start in familiar surroundings.
