Don 'Wink' Martindale recalls greatest time coaching Steelers rivalry

Former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Don 'Wink' Martindale described games against the Pittsburgh Steelers as the highlight of his coaching career.

Martindale spoke on Ryan Ripken’s YouTube channel about the intensity of the AFC North matchup.

"The greatest time I had coaching, and I say this all the time, is when we would play a night game at Pittsburgh," he said. "That setting, and the rivalry between Baltimore and Pittsburgh, was just unbelievable."

He noted the respect between the teams despite fierce competition, adding there were no cheap shots. Martindale served as linebackers coach and later defensive coordinator for the Ravens from 2012 to 2021.

One standout memory came during the 2020 season when a COVID outbreak forced the teams to play on a Wednesday. The Steelers won that game 19-14.
