Edomex prosecutors take action against 33 people over fake teacher positions

The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México exercised penal action against 33 people for fraud and abuse of authority through 459 fake teacher positions in 12 municipalities.

The investigations cover the period from 2021 to early 2025. Between January 2025 and February 2026 the network obtained more than 96 million pesos illegally from the state treasury.

Twenty-six of those involved have already been linked to proceedings and are held at the Santiaguito prison in Almoloya de Juárez. The positions were assigned to schools that were no longer operating in municipalities such as Toluca, Ecatepec and Naucalpan.

The scheme included recruiters who brought in family members and friends. Data entry staff performed the registrations in official systems and mid-level officials authorized the payments. Fake teachers received 6 thousand pesos out of every 200 thousand pesos collected.

A notable case occurred on December 19 2021 when Juan Alberto “N” was detained with 164 debit cards and 180 thousand pesos in cash in Toluca. José Daniel “N” was found dead on April 2.
