Ethiopia expands multi-sector economy to build resilient system

Ethiopia is shifting from an agriculture-only base to a diversified economy across tourism, industry, mining and technology to build a sustainable and resilient system.

Under Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, tourism programs such as Gebeta for Sheger have boosted the sector's capacity across the country. Manufacturing capacity utilization rose from below 47 percent to 66.3 percent over the past three years. Production of gold, iron, precious minerals and cement has also increased substantially in the mining sector. Mobile users now exceed 97 million. This growth supports expanded digital services and advances in Artificial Intelligence applications.
