Ex-senator Edgardo Kueider to testify before Paraguayan justice in alleged money laundering case

Argentine ex-lawmaker Edgardo Kueider will appear this Thursday, July 23, before Judge Humberto Otazú in an alleged money laundering case, days after his conviction for attempted smuggling.

The hearing will take place in Asunción and was rescheduled after a request from the ex-senator's defense. The judge will assess whether to maintain house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor or impose stricter measures.

Prosecutors are investigating Kueider and his partner, Iara Guinsel Costa, over the use of companies such as Golsur S.A. and Exclusiva EAS to conceal assets and the origin of funds. These maneuvers are suspected of enabling the purchase of six luxury apartments in the Las Mercedes neighborhood.

Kueider was sentenced on July 13 to two years of suspended prison for attempted smuggling of more than 211,000 dollars found undeclared in December 2024 at the Friendship International Bridge.
