First Receiver claims 2026 Hickstead Derby RoR title

Katie Jerram Hunnable rode First Receiver to victory in the 2026 Hickstead Derby Retraining of Racehorses championship. The nine-year-old gelding, owned by The King, delivered a flawless performance to secure the sash.

Katie Jerram Hunnable described the win as a personal highlight. “He was absolutely on song,” she said. “He didn’t put a foot out of place the whole time he was in the ring.”

This marked her second victory in the class. Her first came aboard Barbers Shop for the late Queen. First Receiver had finished reserve champion in 2025 before improving on that result.

The horse has compiled an extensive record that now includes the latest title. He has won at Horse of the Year Show, stood champion at Aintree and claimed multiple Royal Windsor titles both under saddle and in hand.

Tori Thomas and Wonga Swinger also collected a championship at the same fixture, taking the Tattersalls RoR amateur ridden show series title for the third time.
