Flamengo came from behind to beat Santos 3-1 at the Maracanã on Sunday (April 5), in the 10th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Pedro, Jorginho and Lucas Paquetá scored for the home side, with Lautaro Díaz replying for Santos. The win lifted Flamengo to fourth place with 17 points.
Santos took the lead two minutes into the second half through Lautaro Díaz, but Flamengo fought back. Pedro equalized on 18 minutes from a Carrascal cross. Jorginho converted a penalty soon after, and Lucas Paquetá sealed the win on 43 minutes with a shot into the top corner.
Coach Leonardo Jardim praised the players' attitude in his post-match press conference. "That's why the players deserve congratulations. In the last game we weren't good and we called attention because they didn't represent the shirt. But today they had a magnificent attitude," he said. He emphasized starting with intensity and the comeback despite interruptions.
Pedro drew level with Gabigol as Flamengo's top scorer in the 21st century, both on 161 goals. Gabigol, now with Santos, was booed by Flamengo fans upon entering the pitch, drawing online criticism for disrespect.
Flamengo have 17 points in fourth place, at risk of being overtaken by Bahia. Santos sit 15th with 10 points. On Wednesday (April 8), Flamengo face Cusco in the Libertadores at 21:30, while Santos play Deportivo Cuenca in the Sul-Americana at 19:00.
