To secure the title with two rounds to spare, the team must win and rely on Palmeiras losing to Grêmio, who play simultaneously at Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre.
Flamengo currently holds 74 points, followed by Palmeiras with 70 and Cruzeiro with 68. Mathematician Tristão Garcia gives the red-and-blacks a 93% chance of winning the title, compared to 6% for Palmeiras and 1% for Cruzeiro.
Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira plans to field reserves against Grêmio, prioritizing the Libertadores final. "The championship is wrapped up," he said, hinting at favoritism toward the leader. "At the right time, we'll talk about what this Brazilian Championship was." The green-and-white side hasn't scored in over five hours of play and has struggled recently, with losses to Mirassol and Santos, and goalless draws against Vitória and Fluminense. "We're working toward Saturday's game. It's the most important match of the year."
Flamengo's coach Filipe Luís stresses focus on the present. "The group is very strong mentally," he stated. He may rotate the squad due to player fatigue, such as Giorgian de Arrascaeta, who struggles with three games a week. Erick Pulgar and Saúl return from suspension, but defender Léo Ortiz is sidelined with an ankle injury.
