Bernardo Fontaine, the new chairman of Codelco's board, sent a video to workers outlining the company's main objectives. The message comes after an audit detected irregularities in copper production data.
In the video, Fontaine highlighted safety as the first challenge. The second objective is to maximize contributions to the treasury without increasing the company's debt. He also mentioned the need to put the house in order with a firm hand and transparency, as well as sustainability.
Fontaine formally assumed the position on May 27, 2026. In the message he stated that “It will be necessary to make changes and improvements and we will do them with the ability to listen and together”.
That same day, the appointment of Daniel Díaz Olguín as the workers' representative on the board was made official. His term will run until May 26, 2030.
The announcement comes amid tensions over the return of bonuses to workers at Chuquicamata and Ministro Hales, totaling US$ 14.3 million.
