Zaini Abdullah, who served as Aceh governor from 2012 to 2017 and was known as Abu Doto, died at RSUD Zainoel Abidin in Banda Aceh on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at around 12:24 WIB.
The Aceh government expressed deep condolences through spokesperson Nurlis Effendi. He described Zaini Abdullah's passing as a major loss for Aceh society due to his dedication as both a doctor and regional leader.
Zaini Abdullah had been treated at the hospital since June 4, 2026, and died in ICU room 2 at the age of 86. Nurlis urged the public to pray for the deceased to receive the best place at Allah's side.
Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan also conveyed condolences and paid respects at the mourning house in Aceh Besar district. He recalled their cooperation when Zaini served as governor and encouraged Aceh's progress so it would not lag behind other regions.
