On Sunday evening, a serious accident occurred on the A9 near Marktschorgast. A 53-year-old driver of a transporter collided with a truck and spun out of control. Subsequently, three following vehicles crashed into the scene.
Police reported that two people suffered minor injuries and two sustained serious ones. The highway toward Berlin was closed for about one and a half hours to allow for rescue and recovery operations. The property damage is estimated at a minimum of 180,000 euros.
The incident highlights the risks on heavily trafficked highways, particularly under poor weather or high traffic conditions. The cause of the initial collision is under investigation, with speed or inattention potentially playing a role, as is common in similar cases.
