Freestyle Digital Media acquires golf crime comedy 'Mooch'

Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the rights to the golf crime comedy film "Mooch." The movie, written, directed by and starring Jeff Ryan, is set to debut on digital platforms on Aug. 14.

Ryan retains theatrical rights through his company First-Names Films. He plans to release the film via a national roadshow of one-night screenings developed with Emo Nite that will include live performances from the soundtrack artists.

The filmmakers said in a statement that the rollout reimagines the theatrical experience for the "Mooch" audience as part screening, part concert and part reunion for a generation raised on Warped Tour.

The ensemble cast includes Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr, Molly Brown, Ashby Gentry, Will Chase, Louis Cancelmi, Olli Haaskivii, Ian Dolley, Natalie Roy and Oscar Williams. The film features an original emo soundtrack and follows Shane, the oldest caddy at his local golf club, who takes a job digging up dirt for a charismatic New Jersey nightclub owner.
