The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival concluded on July 11 with the announcement of its main awards. Myanmar-set drama Fruit Gathering took the top Crystal Globe prize.
The jury praised Fruit Gathering for beginning as a lush portrait of work and friendship before becoming a drama of obsession and queer desire. The film, directed by Aung Phyoe, is a co-production involving Myanmar, Czech Republic and France.
Lover, Not a Fighter by Martina Buchelová won the Proxima Grand Prix. The Slovak-Czech comedy was described as a crowdpleasing entry in the festival's discovery-oriented competition.
Other honors included the Special Jury Prize for The Guest and acting awards for performers in A Happy Family and Pipes. The festival also presented non-statutory awards such as the Europa Cinemas Label to 3 Weeks After.
