Fugitive CV leader from Goiás arrested at Rio beach

Rio de Janeiro military police arrested Daniel Rodrigues dos Santos, known as Bozo, a Comando Vermelho leader in Aparecida de Goiânia, while he was at São Conrado Beach on Sunday (December 28). A fugitive from Goiás justice, Bozo had escaped the Contenção Operation in October and was hiding in Rocinha. Two other men were detained with him.

Daniel Rodrigues dos Santos, known as Bozo, was captured on the afternoon of Sunday (December 28) at São Conrado Beach in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone by the state's Military Police (PMERJ) in partnership with Goiás Military Police (PMGO). Identified as a leader of the Comando Vermelho (CV) in Aparecida de Goiânia (GO), Bozo was a fugitive from Goiás justice and had been targeted in the Contenção Operation on October 28 in the Penha and Alemão Complexes, where he escaped and hid in South Zone communities like Rocinha.

According to PMERJ, he had been monitored since hiding in Rocinha after the operation, which resulted in 122 deaths. Arrest footage shows Bozo being approached by undercover police while enjoying the beach with others. “He was being monitored since he started hiding in Rocinha, after escaping the Contenção Operation carried out in the Penha and Alemão Complexes in October,” PMERJ stated.

Two other men were detained with him and taken to the 11th Police Station in Rocinha, with support from the 23rd BPM (Leblon). The force did not disclose their identities. PMERJ's general commander, Colonel Menezes, celebrated: “The escape is over: another fugitive arrested, another target removed from organized crime.”

The Rio de Janeiro government confirmed the operation on social media, noting Bozo was among Contenção Operation targets based on intelligence data.
