Gang leader ranjdar karwan arrested at arlanda

Abraham Kadir, known as Ranjdar Karwan, a top figure in the Östberga network, was arrested at Arlanda airport on Thursday upon arrival from Germany. The 36-year-old man has prior convictions for serious crimes and violated his parole conditions. Police confirm he will now serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.

Ranjdar Karwan, whose real name is Abraham Kadir, was arrested around 17:00 on Thursday at Arlanda airport in Stockholm. He arrived from Munich, Germany, with several people who are not suspected of crimes. Police confirm on their website that a man in his mid-30s was detained after arriving from Germany.

Karwan, 36, is a leading figure in the gang criminal environment in southern Stockholm, linked to the Östberga network. He was sentenced in 2021 by Södertörns District Court for serious narcotics offense to two years and eight months in prison, a sentence served by early autumn 2023. Earlier, in October 2013, he was sentenced to seven years for a high-profile attempted murder in the bloody conflict between the Östberga network and the Bredäng network.

The conflict has been marked by violence, and Karwan is the only survivor of four brothers identified as members of the network. The other three brothers were murdered in the gang war, the last in a shooting at a hotel near Fridhemsplan in December 2021.

After conditional release in December 2023, Karwan left Sweden immediately and has since mostly been abroad, including in Germany. Due to breaching his parole conditions, he will now serve the remainder of his sentence in prison, according to police.

Police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl says: 'We knew the person might come to Arlanda in some way, but I can't say anything about whether the detention involved cooperation with our police colleagues in Germany.' According to SVT's information, Karwan is a leading figure in the network environment in southern Stockholm.
