GE Profile launches AI-powered smart fridge ahead of CES 2026

GE Profile has introduced a new smart refrigerator designed to simplify grocery management and reduce food waste. The AI-powered appliance features a built-in barcode scanner and camera system to track supplies automatically. Announced before CES 2026, it aims to serve as an intelligent kitchen assistant.

The GE Profile Smart 4-Door French-Door Refrigerator with Kitchen Assistant, measuring 27.9 cubic feet, integrates advanced features to streamline household tasks. At its core is a barcode scanner embedded in the exterior water and ice dispenser. Users can scan items like milk or eggs when running low, and the fridge adds them to a digital grocery list in the SmartHQ app, capturing details such as brand, flavor, and size. The system recognizes over four million products, allowing lists to be shared among family members, referenced in stores, or synced with Instacart for delivery. For items without barcodes, additions can be made via voice commands or text input on the fridge's display or app.

A camera system called FridgeFocus, housed in an LED bar, provides real-time images of the fridge's drawers. This enables remote checks on inventory, helping avoid duplicate purchases during shopping trips.

Beyond storage, the refrigerator functions as a kitchen hub with an 8-inch touchscreen displaying weather updates, customizable backgrounds, and recipes from partners like Taste of Home. Monthly software updates introduce new recipes, while voice controls handle tasks such as adding list items, converting measurements, or retrieving product information. The dispenser includes sensor technology for hands-free water filling, with options for automatic or measured dispensing.

"We're creating intuitive experiences that feel natural and effortless, turning the refrigerator into a true kitchen companion that evolves with families over time," said Jason May, executive product director of French-door refrigeration at GE Appliances.

Available in standard-depth and counter-depth models starting April 2026, the fridge is priced at $4,899. It will be sold through geappliances.com and select retailers in fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, featuring door-in-door storage, an adjustable temperature drawer, and LED lighting.
