The latest version of the open-source accounting software GnuCash, version 5.14, has been released with enhancements including support for US bonds. This update brings improvements to transaction handling and user interface, alongside bug fixes for better stability. Available for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows, it addresses several user-requested features.
GnuCash 5.14, the newest stable release of this free, cross-platform double-entry accounting tool, arrived on December 21, 2025. Designed for users on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems, the software now includes support for US bonds through the updated Finance::Quote module. This allows fetching prices for series E, EE, or I bonds via the usbonds feature.
Key additions encompass a new Postponed column in the Scheduled Transactions list, enabling easier management of transaction instances. The update also removes the Bulgarian Lev (BGN) as a currency option, reflecting its replacement by the euro starting January 1, 2026. Transaction reports can now be modified only when the 'Show only subtotals' option is active, streamlining reporting workflows.
Performance enhancements include an improved autoclearing algorithm that efficiently handles up to 30 uncleared transactions per account. During imports, stale account balances and the grand total are now better managed, reducing errors. The release fixes crashes related to invoice processing and multi-commodity transactions caused by premature account tree view destruction. It also corrects overly narrow text boxes in options dialogs and eliminates China Merchants Bank from quote sources.
The About dialog has been refreshed to display version information and configured paths more clearly, using environment variable names for user directories. Saving a new file, including via 'Save As' for existing books, now resets the GUI session and reinitializes components accordingly. Other refinements involve better translatable strings, faster XML backend parsing for node text and GUIDs, replacement of the deprecated g_binding_get_target function, and an upgrade to GNU C Library version 2.68. Numerous memory leaks have been addressed, boosting overall efficiency.
Users can download GnuCash 5.14 as a source tarball from the official site, install it via Flathub as a Flatpak, or obtain it from their distribution's repositories. Full release notes detail these changes.
