In 2023, Sweden's government office purchased transports worth over 7 million kronor, many involving personal transports at high-level meetings requiring police protection and escort. One example was a summit with several NATO countries. The firm Freys hyrverk, hired for over 500 trips, had its taxi license revoked in 2022 by the Transport Agency. The agency deemed the company and its then traffic manager unsuitable, partly because vehicles were not registered for taxi operations.
Despite the revocation, the firm continued the transports, claiming they were not taxi services but contractual customer transports. A government office employee is charged with violating the taxi traffic law, as the person knew or should have known about the lack of license. A former representative of Freys hyrverk and a representative of a partner company are also charged with operating taxi services without a permit.
