The Kenyan government has moved to permanently archive condolence messages honoring Raila Odinga, who died on October 15, 2025, at age 80 in Kerala, India. Odinga collapsed during a morning walk at around 8:30 a.m. while undergoing treatment for diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital. He was taken to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, but efforts to revive him failed, and he passed away at 9:52 a.m. Indian time (7:22 a.m. Kenyan time).
President William Ruto declared seven days of national mourning with flags at half-mast, and Friday, October 17, 2025, was marked as a public holiday. Odinga's body was repatriated on October 16, 2025, via Kenya Airways, followed by a state funeral at Moi International Sports Centre that drew hundreds of thousands of mourners. He was laid to rest on October 19, 2025, at his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County, beside his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya's first vice president.
