The independent GTA Wiki has accused Fandom of copying its coverage of a recent Grand Theft Auto Online update. Admins posted evidence of near-identical text appearing on Fandom's wiki shortly after their own posts.
On July 14 Rockstar Games released the Kortz Heist update for Grand Theft Auto Online. GTA Wiki documented the new content quickly, including details on the Merula car.
GTA Wiki admin MonkeyPolice188 said all but one of Fandom's articles on the heist were obvious rip-offs. Screenshots showed matching text and a shared typo listing the car's top speed as 1870 KMPH.
Fandom's legal team responded that similarities were expected because both wikis cover the same public game data and use standard formatting. The team also banned GTA Wiki admins who removed the disputed content.
GTA Wiki operates under a CC-BY-NC-SA license that bars commercial use. The smaller team said it lacks resources to pursue further action ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI's release later this year.
