Ibaneis Rocha drops Senate bid for Distrito Federal

Former Distrito Federal governor Ibaneis Rocha (MDB) announced on Wednesday (8) that he has dropped his Senate bid in the October elections.

Ibaneis Rocha sent a message to Folha stating he will care for his personal life. To TV Globo, he said he does not intend to run for other offices and cited turning 55 as a reason to prioritize well-being after events like the pandemic.

The announcement follows political strain tied to the Banco Master case. Ibaneis was the main political backer of the BRB acquisition, an operation blocked by the Central Bank and now under Federal Police investigation.

He had planned to join a ticket with Celina Leão (PP) and Michelle Bolsonaro (PL), but fell out with the governor and lost support. Paulo Henrique Costa, former BRB president, was arrested in April during Operation Compliance Zero.
