Indiana woman charged after threatening children with gun in park

An Indiana woman faces multiple charges after allegedly brandishing a gun at children in a Lafayette park and threatening to shoot them. Ashley Nicole Maxwell, 31, was arrested shortly after the incident at Columbian Park on Sunday evening. Police recovered a handgun linked to her following a search of her residence.

Lafayette police responded to Columbian Park around 5:55 p.m. Sunday to reports of an armed person. Children aged 7 to 14 told officers that a woman in a pink bonnet and blue shirt pulled a gun from her fanny pack and pointed it at them. She threatened to 'light him up' at one child and to blow up the park, according to the probable cause affidavit obtained by WXIN.
