Mikaela Straus, known as King Princess, will make her stage debut as Lisa in a musical adaptation of Girl, Interrupted. The production, featuring songs by Aimee Mann, begins previews on May 13 at New York’s Public Theater. Billboard first reported the casting news.
The musical version of Susanna Kaysen’s memoir has been in development for nearly a decade. Previews start May 13, with the official run from June 4 to June 21 at the Public Theater in New York. Aimee Mann, who revealed her involvement in 2018 during an interview with the Los Angeles Review of Books, composed original songs for the show. She developed the score alongside her 2022 album, Queens of the Summer Hotel. Lisa is the role Angelina Jolie portrayed in the 1999 film adaptation, earning Jolie a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. King Princess brings prior acting experience to the production. Straus appeared in a recurring role during the second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. She also played the daughter of Hugh Jackman’s character in the 2025 film Song Sung Blue, centered on a Neil Diamond tribute band. Straus is set to appear with Este Haim, Maya Hawke and Julia Fox in director Will Gluck’s upcoming romantic comedy One Night Only.
