The New York Knicks will hold their first championship parade on Thursday after winning the NBA title. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the details shortly after the team's Game 5 victory.
The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night to claim their first NBA championship since 1973. The parade will proceed down the Canyon of Heroes on Broadway from The Battery to City Hall, followed by a celebration where the team receives keys to the city. Municipal buildings will be illuminated in blue and orange.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a statement: "For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks."
Jalen Brunson was named Finals MVP after scoring 45 points in Game 5 and averaging 32.6 points across the series. Coach Mike Brown described the win as surreal and expressed excitement about returning home.
The Knicks completed comebacks of 16 points in Game 5 and 29 points in Game 4. All five Finals games were decided by 10 points or fewer.
