The latest blow is defenseman Jonas Brodin of the Minnesota Wild, out week-to-week with a lower-body injury, per The Athletic.
Brodin, 32, who earned World Championship bronzes in 2024 and 2025, has been dealing with a nagging issue that sidelined him for four games in December. Minnesota coach John Hynes noted: “It’s not something that happened in a game, but something that has built up a bit.” He added that Brodin's Olympic participation is not necessarily in jeopardy.
The injury list now includes fellow defensemen Victor Hedman and Erik Karlsson, plus forwards Leo Carlsson and Joel Eriksson Ek (also of Minnesota). This escalates from initial reports of six injuries.
Sweden opens against host Italy on February 11. No roster changes have been announced, but concerns mount as the tournament nears.
