Microsoft has refuted reports that the PlayStation 5 edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 is outselling the Xbox version by eight to one.
The claim originated from an IGN tweet on June 27 based on data from its affiliate linking program. The data indicated players were eight times more likely to pre-order the game on PS5 than on Xbox Series X/S.
In response Microsoft stated the figures do not represent actual pre-order data. A spokesperson told Windows Central that the company has had record orders and urged observers to wait for real data rather than affiliate link clicks.
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 began earlier in the week. The game is scheduled to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
