The Hulu comedy Not Suitable for Work concluded its first season on Tuesday with a series of romantic and professional twists.
Creator Mindy Kaling revealed that the finale's closing image was planned from the start. In the episode, AJ confronts her boss Bill after learning he is returning to his ex. Bill ends their relationship, leading to a confrontation at the office.
Davis defends AJ and is fired as a result. AJ then kisses Davis just as Josh arrives for their New Year's Eve plans. Kaling said she always intended for Josh to witness the moment.
She described the characters' similarities as the reason their relationship was never meant to last. Kaling also left open the possibility of an AJ and Davis pairing in a potential second season while noting she aims to subvert expectations.
