MUI secretary general views hajj village as strengthening financial ecosystem and social impact

Indonesia's Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) regards President Prabowo Subianto's proposal for a Hajj Village in Saudi Arabia as strategically valuable. The initiative is seen as enhancing services for Indonesian pilgrims while reinforcing the national Hajj financial ecosystem and delivering broad social benefits.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Central Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan described the Hajj Village initiative as a new historical milestone and a manifestation of the state's concern for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims' needs. The program aims to provide better, safer, and more humane services.

"There is an urgency to establish the Hajj Village to strengthen the Hajj financial ecosystem. This ecosystem is a complex system involving many parties in managing Hajj funds while improving service quality," Amirsyah stated in a written remark on Thursday (December 18, 2025).

From a objectives perspective, the Hajj Village has great potential to optimize the management and investment of pilgrim funds to finance Hajj worship. The Hajj Management Agency is responsible for professional oversight, while partner banks are expected to maximize fund benefits. Additionally, Hajj insurance protection addresses unforeseen risks, and it contributes to Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP).

Socially, the Hajj Village will significantly enhance pilgrims' quality of life through improved facilities, fostering a solid and harmonious community, and increasing comfort and safety during worship. Amirsyah's comments underscore the strategic value of the program proposed by President Prabowo Subianto.
