The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) has seized counterfeit alcohol worth Sh5.28 million in an operation conducted in Kitengela, Kajiado County. This followed a raid by agency officers, in collaboration with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and National Police Service (NPS), on Scotland Wines and Spirits shop.

During the raid, the shop owner, who had been under surveillance by the agencies, was arrested. The suspect led officers to a container in Kitengela where the fake alcohol was stored. A total of 528 cartons of various alcohol types were found in the container.

These included 230 cartons of Trace Vodka, 107 cartons of Dalas Brandy, 44 cartons of Supa Vodka, 22 cartons of Rider Vodka, 85 cartons of Triger Gin, and 12 cartons of Tiger Vodka. Each carton contained 20 bottles of 250ml each.

KRA officers took the entire consignment to their Nairobi warehouse for further inspection. Officers from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) collected several samples for laboratory testing to determine quality levels and public health risks.

Nacada CEO Anthony Omerikwa stated that the operation stemmed from a directive by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to destroy illicit alcohol. This raid highlights government efforts to combat the illegal alcohol trade, which poses risks to public health.
