New governor Acko Ankarberg Johansson on Västmanland: 'Strong county'

Acko Ankarberg Johansson, who resigned as health minister in September, has been appointed the new governor of Västmanland. She describes the county as strong and looks forward to working with the county administrative board. She will take office on November 10 at Västerås Castle.

At a press conference at Västerås Castle, Civil Minister Erik Slottner (KD) announced that Acko Ankarberg Johansson will take over as governor after Johan Sterte. Slottner described her as a well-known face to many Swedes and joked about her singing interest in connection with upcoming Advent and Lucia celebrations.

Ankarberg Johansson, who has previously been a minister, member of parliament, party secretary for the Christian Democrats, chair of the municipal council in Jönköping, and funeral director, is moving from an overnight apartment in Stockholm to Västerås Castle. She will take office on November 10, with her appointment lasting until the end of November 2031.

“I know that the county administrative board has an important role and I look forward to working with it,” she says about the new executive position. The new governor also expresses enthusiasm for meeting people in the county: “Would like to meet people” – that is what she most looks forward to. She calls Västmanland a “strong county”.
