Officials mandate environmental standards for Upper Egypt projects

Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad and Head of the Upper Egypt Development Authority Amr Abdel Moneim reviewed ongoing projects and required integration of environmental standards into all regional investments.

The review covered projects for the current fiscal year. These include a food industries complex in the New Valley Governorate, a sugarcane seedlings project in Qena, and an onion and garlic drying factory in Sohag.

Awad stated that the ministry seeks to maximise the use of competitive advantages, natural resources, and human capital in Upper Egypt. She noted that development programmes should align with the authority to support economic clusters and manufacturing sectors.

Abdel Moneim indicated that the authority prioritises partnerships with the public and private sectors. He added that coordination with the ministry focuses on agricultural and animal manufacturing alongside craft and productive activities to achieve sustainable economic development.
