The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Thursday that they have placed 25-year-old defenseman Egor Zamula on waivers, exposing him to potential claims from the other 31 NHL teams. Zamula, an undrafted Russian player standing at 6-foot-3, has appeared in only 13 games this season, tallying a single point. His ice time has dwindled significantly, with just two outings since November 29, as he has been overtaken by teammates Emil Andrae and prospect Ty Murchison.
This decision follows the return of Rasmus Ristolainen from injury, prompting the Flyers to prioritize journeyman Noah Juulsen as their seventh defenseman. The current defensive lineup includes Andrae, Ristolainen, Nick Seeler, Jamie Drysdale, Cam York, and Travis Sanheim. The Flyers' move addresses a crowded blue line, where Zamula's performances had led to repeated healthy scratches.
Should another team claim Zamula before 2 p.m. on Friday, Philadelphia would eliminate his $1.7 million cap hit. If he clears waivers, assignment to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms would free up a modest $550,000 in cap space and a roster spot for the Flyers.
