Podemos extends hand to Maíllo to negotiate unified candidacy in Andalusia

Podemos candidate for the Andalusian government presidency, Juan Antonio Delgado, offered on Sunday an 'extended hand' to Antonio Maíllo of Por Andalucía to negotiate a united left-wing candidacy for the May 17 regional elections. Parties have until April 3 to register coalitions. Delgado emphasizes that 'the Andalusian people want us to go together'.

Juan Antonio Delgado, Podemos candidate for the presidency of the Andalusian Regional Government, extended on Sunday an 'extended hand' to Antonio Maíllo, lead candidate of the Por Andalucía coalition and member of Izquierda Unida (IU), to negotiate a 'united left' candidacy for the May 17 regional elections.

In a media briefing in Seville, Delgado stressed that 'we have enough time' before the April 3 deadline to register coalitions. He said they have been 'wanting to talk for weeks' and prioritize 'the interests of the Andalusian people'. 'What the Andalusian people want is for us to go together', he stated.

Currently, at least three left-of-PSOE candidacies are running separately: Por Andalucía (with Maíllo, Movimiento Sumar, and Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz), Podemos (Delgado), and Adelante Andalucía (José Ignacio García). In the 2022 Andalusian elections, IU and Podemos aligned under Por Andalucía, though the Podemos brand was not registered in time.
