A 25-year-old man was shot by police in Gislaved after a car chase that escalated into a threatening situation. The man was hit by shots and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The incident is now under investigation by the police special investigations unit.
The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, November 28, 2025. At 19:59, police initiated a traffic stop near Burseryd, south of Gislaved, but the driver did not stop and continued at speeds up to 110 kilometers per hour. The pursuit continued in low traffic until police used a spike strip at 20:23 on national road 26 in Gislaved to halt the vehicle.
After the car stopped, the man exited and attempted to flee on foot, leading to a threatening situation. At 20:29, the police patrol fired effective shots at him, and the man was hit. He received initial treatment from the patrol on site before an ambulance took him to Värnamo Hospital, where Region Jönköping reports serious injuries to a man aged 20–29 following violence in Gislaved.
Police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver confirmed: “Police have fired effective shots and this man was hit.” She described the situation: “The driver steps out and tries to flee. Police then make contact with the person. That's when a threatening situation arises.” The man is suspected of gross threat against a public servant, gross violation of the knife act, and reckless driving. A sharp object was involved, but details on any attacks are left to the investigation.
The special investigations unit has initiated a preliminary investigation, as is standard in police shootings. Police refrain from commenting on the number of shots or exact injuries to avoid influencing the probe.
