On October 29, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto attended the destruction of 214.84 tons of narcotics evidence at Bhayangkara Field, National Police Headquarters, Jakarta. The seized items, from October 2024 to October 2025, were worth Rp29.37 trillion and included various types such as 186.7 tons of marijuana, 9.2 tons of meth, and millions of ecstasy pills and other psychotropic drugs. According to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, this uncovered 49,306 cases involving 65,572 suspects, saving around 629 million lives from potential abuse.
In his speech, President Prabowo stressed that drugs pose a strategic global threat hindering Indonesia's aspirations to become an advanced nation. "If they fail to prevent, seize, and arrest, it could be used by 629 million people. That's more than twice Indonesia's population," he said. He called for teamwork among Polri, BNN, customs, prosecutors, BIN, intelligence, and local governments. "This must be teamwork," he stated.
Prabowo emphasized balancing strict law enforcement with effective rehabilitation. He plans to add rehab centers in districts lacking facilities. "I think we need additional rehabilitation centers. Some districts don't have them yet; we must complete them soon," he asserted. Prevention should start from education, Scouts, and sports. Additionally, Polri has transformed 228 drug villages into 118 drug-free villages and implemented 1,898 rehabilitation programs via restorative justice.
The event was witnessed by officials including DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, and Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo. Prabowo symbolically destroyed two drug packages, demonstrating the government's commitment to protecting the youth.
