The Nashville Predators snapped a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2025 NHL Global Series at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Filip Forsberg tied the game with 1:10 remaining in regulation, and Steven Stamkos scored 44 seconds into overtime. The win came after the Predators outshot the Penguins significantly but trailed until late.
The Pittsburgh Penguins (9-5-4) entered the matchup having lost four of their last five games, while the Nashville Predators (6-9-4) were on a five-game skid, three in regulation. Played on November 14, 2025, at Avicii Arena, the first period ended scoreless with shots tied at 8-8, each team receiving a power-play chance.
In the second period, Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead at 13:49 when Evgeni Malkin's centering pass deflected off Michael McCarron's stick and past Juuse Saros for Malkin's fourth goal of the season. Nashville dominated shots 12-2 in the period and 20-10 overall through 40 minutes but couldn't score.
The third period remained tight until the Predators pulled Saros for an extra attacker. With 1:10 left, Filip Forsberg won a puck battle after a faceoff in the offensive zone and scored on a backhand to tie the game at 1-1, sending it to overtime. Forsberg, a Swedish native, called it a big day: “There was a lot of excitement... it's been a big day. [We] couldn't be happier that we were able to pull that one through and get a win. That was awesome.”
In overtime, Steven Stamkos sealed the comeback 44 seconds in, ripping a shot past Arturs Silovs on the rush. Stamkos noted the team's resilience: “We played a solid game... it was just an all-around team effort.” Saros made 16 of 17 saves for a .941 save percentage, while Silovs stopped 28 of 30 for .933.
Predators coach Andrew Brunette praised the effort: “Tonight, I'm really happy that it worked out... we got rewarded.” The victory marked Nashville's latest game-tying goal outside North America and Stamkos' fastest overtime goal in such games. Pittsburgh now faces three straight losses ahead of the November 16 rematch. Healthy scratches for Nashville included Tyson Jost and Joakim Kemell.
