Project Phoenix targets 2031 release after long delays

Developer CIA, Inc. has shared a new update on the long-delayed JRPG Project Phoenix, setting a production finish target for the end of 2031. The announcement came on July 7 from director Hiroaki Yura in a private message to Kickstarter backers.

The game was first funded through a 2013 Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1 million, with an initial target of March 2015. Updates in 2015 pushed the window to 2018, after which the page went silent in 2019.

Yura addressed the seven-year gap in communication, stating it was the wrong approach and that no Kickstarter funds were used for other projects he worked on during that time. He also shared a rough mix of a main theme by Nobuo Uematsu and a two-minute prototype gameplay video.

Production is now aimed to wrap by the end of 2031, after which a release date will be set. The update follows years of community concerns over the project's status.
