Remulla: all flood control suspects in prison by 2026

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that all perpetrators of anomalies in flood control projects will be imprisoned by 2026. He shared this during a gathering of vice mayors. This aligns with President Marcos's administration's commitment against corruption.

In his speech at the 29th National Convention of the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla assured that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration will not relent in pursuing corrupt officials. “Rest assured, the administration of President Marcos is not stepping back from its commitment to have those who did wrong, who stole, jailed this 2026,” he said in Filipino. He also officiated the oathtaking of the newly elected VMLP executive board on Wednesday in Manila.

President Marcos had earlier indicated that some individuals involved in the scandal would be jailed before Christmas. “We have only one vision – a better nation, better regions,” Remulla added, amid growing concerns over the spending of public funds. The president remains steadfast in his anti-corruption campaign despite controversies surrounding flood control projects.

Meanwhile, Liberal Party lawmakers, led by House Deputy Minority Leader and ML party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, filed House Resolution No. 524 to investigate civil forfeiture of ill-gotten wealth by implicated officials. This draws on Republic Act 1379 (Unexplained Wealth Law) and RA 9160 (Anti-Money Laundering Act). The resolution aims to review asset recovery efforts, identify procedural gaps, and propose legislative measures to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms. According to the lawmakers, recovered assets amount to a mere fraction compared to the hundreds of billions of pesos lost in what they describe as the country's biggest corruption scandal.
