Respawn ends Apex Legends support on original Nintendo Switch

Developer Respawn Entertainment has announced that Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch. Support will end on August 4, 2026, with future seasons available only on the Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms. Player progress and purchases will transfer seamlessly to the new console.

Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Apex Legends, revealed plans to discontinue support for the game on the original Nintendo Switch following the release of Season 29. This decision means that after August 4, 2026, the battle royale title will no longer receive updates or be playable on the current Switch model, though it will continue on the upcoming Switch 2 and existing platforms like PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Apex Legends team stated: "Hey legends, we want to share an important update about Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch. Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch. Future seasons of Apex Legends will continue to be available on Nintendo Switch 2." This announcement gives current Switch owners several months to complete their gameplay and prepare for a potential upgrade.

Respawn emphasized continuity for players, noting that "all players' progress, purchases, and earnings are tied to their individual EA accounts." This includes Apex Coins and cosmetics, which will carry over to the Switch 2 even if users acquire the new console after the support cutoff date.

The original Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends launched in 2021, two years after the game's debut on other platforms in 2019. While the Switch 2 is expected to provide a superior experience due to enhanced hardware, the news may disappoint owners without immediate upgrade plans. The move aligns with broader industry shifts toward next-generation hardware as the original Switch approaches the end of its lifecycle.
