Riders tackle John O’Groats to Land’s End for dementia research

Ali Zuend and Jo Treweek are about halfway through their ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End. The pair have raised nearly £6,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK so far. Both riders have personal connections to dementia and aim to finish by the end of July.

The two horsewomen began their journey to support research into a cure. They are largely following a route taken by another rider in 2022 and using Ordnance Survey maps for navigation. On 12 June they reached the Pennine Bridleway, their first day on that section.

Both women have seen dementia’s effects firsthand. Jo Treweek said they chose Alzheimer’s Research UK because it focuses on solutions rather than only care. They have increased their fundraising target from £5,000 to £20,000.

The riders have met many helpful people along the way who offered accommodation or towed their supply trailer. Their horses Poppy and Bonny remain in good condition and eager to continue each morning. The pair have scheduled weekly rest days for the animals during the remaining weeks of travel.
