Roads in Addis Ababa to close for peaceful protest

The Addis Ababa Police Commission announced that several roads leading to Meskel Square will close to vehicles during a peaceful demonstration scheduled for July 18.

The demonstration opposes the worsening crisis in the Tigray region and carries the slogan “Stop the bloodshed, let peace prevail.” It is set to begin at 12:00 at Meskel Square.

Roads affected include routes from Megenagna, Bole, Gotera, Mexico Square, Legehar, Arat Kilo, Kasanchis and Ambassador Theatre. Vehicle parking has been banned around Meskel Square and nearby streets since July 17.

The Addis Ababa Police Commission confirmed the closures will remain in effect until the event concludes.
