Ronda opens new Tajo trail with walkways and bridge views

Ronda City Council plans to open this summer an 800-meter itinerary through the Tajo Gorge, featuring wooden walkways that allow visitors to walk the ravine beneath the historic bridge.

The route starts at the renovated Casa Manolillo, near Plaza María Auxiliadora, and descends via stone stairs to the Guadalevín River. The first 250 meters opened in spring 2024 and have already welcomed over 150,000 visitors, 80 percent of them foreigners.

The walkways, designed by architect Luis Machuca Santa-Cruz, run three meters above the water and pass old mills and Endesa sluice gates. The project includes environmental measures such as reservoirs for bats, fish and otters.

The budget exceeds one million euros, half funded by the Diputación de Málaga. Tickets will cost 12 euros and go on sale at the ticket offices and on the website desfiladerodeltajo.info. Ronda residents will have free access.
