Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing from her home since the early hours of February 1, 2026. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed the investigation remains active and noted the use of genealogy in reviewing leads.
Derrick Callela, 42, pleaded guilty on July 2, 2026, to two counts of harassment using a telecommunication device after calling and texting the family on February 4 with a fake Bitcoin ransom demand. He faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine, with sentencing scheduled for September 2026.
The FBI has stated that some ransom notes received may be legitimate and are still under investigation, while others were extortion attempts. The US Attorney's Office noted Callela knew an earlier ransom demand had been made.
